Game #1 @Chicago 6/1/97
Utah built a 39-32 lead in the 2nd quarter despite Karl Malone making only 3 of 11 shots in the 1st half. The Bulls also forced John Stockton into an uncharacteristic amount of turnovers. The game was tied at 82 with 35 seconds left and the Jazz had the ball. Stockton missed a 3-pointer but Malone came up with the offensive rebound. Dennis Rodman fouled Malone with 9 ticks left on the clock. Malone then missed both free throws and Chicago got the rebound. Toni Kukoc got the ball to Michael Jordan who went one-on-one against Bryon Russell. Jordan nailed a 20-foot buzzer to give the Bulls a Game 1 win.

Game #4 @Utah 6/8/97
Jeff Hornacek scored 9 points while Karl Malone chipped in with 7 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists in the opening quarter as the Jazz built a lead. The Utah would shoot 52% in the 2nd quarter but Chicago’s half-court trap defense forced them into numerous turnovers as Chicago surged ahead. Utah bounced back to tie the game in the 3rd as Michael Jordan did not score and Dennis Rodman picked up his 1st technical foul of the series. Chicago looked poised to take control of the series when Jordan’s dunk gave them a 71-66 lead late in the 4th quarter. Jordan scored 12 of the Bulls’ 17 points in the final quarter. John Stockton answered with a trey to pull within 2 at the 2:20 mark. Jordan would go 0-3 with a turnover in the games final 1:45 as the Jazz came back. A Stockton free throw cut the margin to 73-70 and then 2 more Stockton charity tosses cut the lead to 1 with 1:03 left. Malone then threw down a fastbreak dunk with 44 seconds left to give the Jazz a 74-73 lead. After the Bulls couldn’t score, Malone hit 2 more free throws to make it a 3-point game, 76-73 at the 17-second mark. Chicago missed again and the Jazz sealed the game at the line.

Game #6 @Chicago 6/13/97
Chicago made only 34% of its shots in the 1st half. Utah couldn’t capitalize due to their own poor free throw shooting as they made only 12 of 22 attempts in the 1st half. Karl Malone made only 4 of 11 tries from the line as Utah built an 8-point lead that could have been much larger. Utah held on through the 3rd, but the Bulls came back in the 4th. They finally took the lead with Michael Jordan on the bench when a 10-0 run left them ahead 74-73. The teams traded the lead back and forth until the game was tied at 86 with 1:44 to play. Rookie Shandon Anderson then missed his 2nd open layup of the game. Chicago would get the ball in the final minute and, unlike Game 1, Utah double-teamed Jordan. That left Steve Kerr open and he nailed the 17-foot jump shot to put the Bulls ahead for good.
