The Lakers took control early and Syracuse could get no close than 5 points after early in the 2nd quarter. Jim Pollard scored 9 points in the 3rd period as the Lakers stretched their lead to 61-45 with 3 minutes left in the period. Syracuse would try to rally late, but it had too much ground to make up.
