Game #1 @Phoenix
The Bulls, behind Horace Grant’s 11 points, jumped out to a 34-20 lead and never trailed. The Bulls extended their lead to 46-26 with 5:32 left in the 2nd quarter. The Bulls did not double-team Charles Barkley but he couldn’t find his shooting touch. The Suns did close to 52-41 after Oliver Miller and Richard Dumas led a 15-5 run. The Suns continued to close the gap in the 2nd half. The Suns closed the entire gap down to 3, 88-85, with 4:25 left in the game. Michael Jordan scored 14 points in the final frame to preserve the lead and a B.J. Armstrong trifecta ended any Suns’ hopes at the 2:18 mark.

Game #2 @Phoenix
Again the Bulls jumped out to a 14-point 1st quarter lead but this time Phoenix answered back right away. The Bulls again shut down Kevin Johnson and disrupted the Suns offense. Chicago led 57-43 with 2:22 left in the 1st half before Phoenix closed the half on a 10-2 run. Phoenix finally tied the game in the 4th on a Dan Majerle 3-pointer. The Suns then took the lead, 91-89, on a Charles Barkley layup. John Paxson then scored 5 straight points to give the Bulls a 94-91 lead. The Suns would hang tough but could not catch up. Scottie Pippen blocked a Danny Ainge 3-pointer with the Bulls leading 106-105 to help preserve the win.

Game #3 @Chicago
Shades of ’76, the Suns played another triple overtime Finals game, but this time they emerged victorious. With the Bulls looking to go up 3-0 at Chicago Stadium, the game turned into a seesaw affair with neither team able to gain a substantial advantage. The Suns led by 1 entering the final frame. Phoenix looked to have the game well in hand when Danny Ainge drained a 3-pointer to give the Suns a 99-88 lead with 7:33 left in the game. The Bulls clamped down and held Phoenix to only 4 points the rest of the way. Chicago managed to tie despite Michael Jordan only making 1 of 10 shots in the 4th quarter. A Horace Grant 3-point play tied the game at 103 with 1:33 left and neither team could score again. The teams continued to fire blanks in the 1st overtime as they combined for only 8 points. In the 2nd extra session, Chicago went up by 4 points on 3 occasions. Chicago led 114-110 with 0:40 to play after a Jordan free throw. A Charles Barkley jumper cut it to 114-112 at the 32-second mark. Then Dan Majerle tied the game with an 18-foot jumper with 0:03 left. Chicago led in the 3rd OT 118-116 with 3:28 left when the roof caved in. Majerle hit another trey to give the Suns a 119-118 lead. A Charles Barkley steal turned 3-point play provided some breathing room. Two free throws by Majerle made it 127-118 with 1:09 to play. Barkley played after having fluid drained from his right elbow before the game while Kevin Johnson played a Finals record 62 minutes.

Game #4 @Chicago
Chicago went up 3 games to 1 behind Michael Jordan’s 55 points as they bounced back from their poor shooting in game 4. Charles Barkley’s 4th career triple-double was not enough to square the series. Chicago led most all the way and were up by 8 points with 3:33 left in the game. Phoenix made a comeback and cut the lead to 106-104 with less than 1 minute remaining. The Suns regained possession after the Bulls failed to score with a chance to tie or take the lead on a 3. They couldn’t capitalize after an unforced error; Kevin Johnson mishandled Danny Ainge’s in-bounds pass. B.J. Armstrong recovered the loose ball and Michael Jordan produced a 3-point play off a drive that clinched a 3-1 series lead.

Game #5 @Chicago
With the city of Chicago massing security measures to fend off a feared celebration riot, the Suns rallied behind a cry of “Save the City.” The Suns, for the first time in the series, jumped all over the Bulls as they built a 16-point 1st quarter lead. The Bulls closed the gap to 5 by halftime but then the Suns started the 2nd half with an 18-9 run to go up 72-58. Richard Dumas scored 11 of the 18 points during the run. The Bulls would not get any closer than 5 points during the rest of the 2nd half. Michael Jordan scored 41 points in the losing cause and that set a Finals record with his 4th straight 40+ point game.

Game #6 @Phoenix
The Bulls came out sizzling in the 1st quarter as they hit on 64% of their shots. Michael Jordan scored 13 points in the quarter as he made 3 of 4 3-point shots. The Suns fought back to tie the game 47 with 2:52 left in the half after the Bulls had an 11-point lead. Chicago bounced back to lead by 10 points on 3 different occasions in the 3rd period as Scottie Pippen scored 10 points in the quarter. Chicago led 87-79 entering the 4th but would then score a Finals record low 12 points in the final 12 minutes. A Charles Barkley drive tied the game at 88 with 5:34 left. The Bulls had scored only 1 point in the first 7 minutes of the period when Dan Majerle hit a trey to give Phoenix a 91-88 lead. That was their first lead since early in the 1st quarter. A Kevin Johnson drive gave them a 98-94 lead with 2:23 to play as the Suns tried to force a Game 7. However, the Suns would then miss 3 opportunities to widen that 4-point lead. The Bulls had scored only 7 points in the first 11:22 of the quarter when Michael Jordan went coast-to-coast for a lay-up to cut the lead to 98-96. The Suns then failed to get a shot off before the shot clock expired and the Bulls got the ball back. The Suns then double-teamed Jordan, who had scored all 9 Chicago points in the quarter, and he passed to Pippen. Pippen then found Horace Grant along the baseline. Grant, who had scored 1 points in games 5 and 6, found John Paxson who hit a 3-point shot with 4 ticks left. Trailing 99-98, Phoenix was turned back when Kevin Johnson’s shot was blocked by Grant.
