Game #7 5/5/69 @Los Angeles

Boston jumped out to a 24-12 lead in the 1st period behind Sam Jones, John Havlicek & Emmette Bryant. Sam Jones closed the half by hitting 2 free throws with 0:00 on the clock after a foul by Tom Hawkins giving Boston 59-56 lead. L.A. tied the score at 60 in the 3rd, but then went more than 5 minutes without a point. The Celtics used an 11-0 run to take a 91-74 and Wilt Chamberlain picked up his 5th foul. Despite entering the final frame down by 15, L.A. looked to be in business after Havlicek & Bill Russell each picked up their 5th foul early in the final period. L.A. had closed to within 103-96 when Chamberlain injured his knee and left the game with 5:19 remaining. L.A. finished off an 8-0 run that closed the gap from 103-94 with 5:46 left to 103-102 with 3:07 to play. After empty trips for both teams, Keith Erickson tipped the ball away from Havlicek, but it went to Don Nelson. Nelson’s jumper put Boston up 105-102 with 1:17 to play. After L.A. couldn’t score, Larry Siegfried hit 2 free throws to make it 107-102 with 0:24 left. A couple of Laker baskets were not enough as Bill Russell & Sam Jones left the game as NBA Champs.
